Kabina Distilling Balance Rakija
Compared to the Ezevo version, the 40% Balance Rakija from Kabina’s premium range is much less floral but more earthy. While there’s less fun to be had on the nose here, there’s better integration and complexity, with notes of stewed rhubarb, slate, menthol, American-style Concord grape jam and woody vanilla. On the palate, there’s a lovely rainwater sweetness, and it’s light in all the right ways, with a silky texture and no afterburn at all. I feel like this would make a fantastic martini, or would be great sipped straight out of the freezer with pickles and cured meats – as you would with a good vodka. A fantastic introduction to the style for anyone who finds unaged grape spirits a bit full-on and a clear step up from Kabina’s Ezevo 40%.
