These 14 wines from Hunter Valley icon Tyrrell's Wines have been scored 'exceptional', 'outstanding', and 'highly recommended' by Tasting Team member Toni Paterson MW.

James Halliday once described Tyrrell's Wines as "one of the most successful family wineries". Tyrrell's was established in 1858, which makes 2024 the Hunter Valley winery's 166th year.

Below are a slew of new Tyrrell's tasting notes and scores from Toni Paterson MW. Some of the wines are available now, and a few will be available in the coming months.

The 2022 Vat 63 Winemaker's Selection Chardonnay Semillon was released earlier this week. The Tyrrell's team say it's "arguably the most unique wine" they produce, and the chardonnay and semillon blend (65/35 per cent) is made simply because the family and staff love to drink it.

Making up the 2024 release of the Winemaker's Selection is the 2022 Vat 63, along with the 2018 Vat 1 Semillon, 2022 Vat 47 Chardonnay, 2021 Vat 9 Shiraz, and 2021 Vat 8 Shiraz Cabernet. The Selection was first created by Murray Tyrrell (with the help of Len Evans) back in 1965, and is a showcase of the best wines from each vintage. The wines are estate-grown, sourced from the oldest vineyards on the estate, and are only bottled in the very best years.

The 2022 Vat 9 Winemaker's Selection Shiraz, 2022 Vat 8 Winemaker's Selection Shiraz Cabernet and the 2018 Single Vineyard Belford Semillon will all be available from September.
