The Halliday Tasting Team reviewed over 8000 wines for the 2024 edition of the Halliday Wine Companion.
Of the 8000 wines, 617 were dubbed top-rated. The top-rated winers were narrowed down to 17 varietal winners – sparkling wine, riesling, chardonnay, semillon, sauvignon blanc, pinot gris/grigio, other whites and blends, rosé, pinot noir, grenache and blends, shiraz/syrah, cabernet shiraz blends, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet and family, other reds and blends, sweet wine and fortified wine. The 17 winners then became one wine of the year – Yangarra Estate Vineyard Old Vine Grenache 2021.
