Fairbrossen

Matt Bowness was the winemaker at Sittella Wines for 8 years, guiding it to numerous show awards, and together with father Ken, the pair was able to secure a small property in Margaret River, planting vines in 1994. This was followed by a Perth Hills vineyard planted 10 years later. The grapes from both vineyards were sold until 2008, but in that year a very small amount was made while working at Sittella. Matt relinquished his position with Sittella in '11 to establish Fairbrossen Estate, and the winery was built for the first harvest in '12. Matt says,‘Our family origins are from the Lake District in the north-west of England where big appetites are common.A phrase often expressed at the completion of very hearty meals is “I'm fair brossen”, meaning, quite literally, “I am full to bursting!”.' -JAMES HALLIDAY
