St Margaret's Vineyard

Alex Scott is owner and manager of the family business which, he says, 'is a unique poly-cultural venture with cattle, garlic, and assorted chooks, ducks, pets and pests all playing their part in the ecosystem of the property'. The major part, however, is 7ha of cabernet sauvignon, 3ha of chardonnay, 2.4ha of sauvignon blanc and 1ha of merlot. The whites are made at Naturaliste Vintners (Bruce Dukes), Alex makes the red wines with open fermenters, a basket press and old French oak barrels (in which the wines spend two years).
