Our Review
Unravelling the story behind the exotically named SOUMAH and its strikingly labelled Savarro (reminiscent of 19th-century baroque design) was a voyage of discovery. SOUMAH is in fact an abbreviation of South of Maroondah (Highway); Savarro is an alternative name for savagnin. This is the venture of Brett Butcher, who has international experience in the hospitality industry as CEO of the Langham Group and a long involvement in retailing wines to restaurants in many countries. The many varieties planted have been clonally selected and grafted onto rootstock with the long-term future in mind, although some of the sauvignon blanc has been grafted over to bracchetto. -JAMES HALLIDAY
