Our Review
Mons Rubra has been developed by Max and Susan Haverfield. With a broad-based interest in wine, and after some research, they purchased their property in the Macedon Ranges; it is situated in the 600-700m elevation range, with friable volcanic soils. They settled on the most widely propagated clone of pinot noir in Australia, MV6, which seems to perform well wherever it is planted. Initially the wine was made by John Ellis at Hanging Rock (2004 to '10), but it is now being made by the Leith family at their Passing Clouds winery at Musk. -JAMES HALLIDAY
