Our Review
Formerly Lightfoot & Sons. Brian and Helen Lightfoot first established a vineyard of predominantly pinot noir and shiraz, with some cabernet sauvignon and merlot, on their Myrtle Point farm in the late ‘90s. The soils were found to be similar to that of Coonawarra, with terra rossa over limestone. In the early days, most of the grapes were sold to other Victorian winemakers, but with the arrival of Alistair Butt (formerly of Brokenwood and Seville Estate) and sons Tom and Rob taking over the business around ‘08 (Tom in the vineyard and cellar, Rob overseeing sales and marketing), the focus has shifted to producing estate wines. Cabernet and merlot have since been replaced with more chardonnay, some gamay and pinot grigio, but pinot noir retains the top spot. -TYSON STELZER
