Our Review
Paul Dahlenburg (nicknamed Bear), Lauretta Schulz (Laurie) and their children leased a 2ha block of shiraz planted in the 1890s. Bear and Laurie knew about the origins of the vineyard, which was in a state of serious decline after years of neglect. Son Ben returned to the winery in ’16 to assist the family business after several vintages abroad. Years of tireless work reconstructing the old vines has resulted in tiny amounts of exceptionally good shiraz; there are also plantings of nero d’Avola, durif, fiano and aucerot. -JAMES HALLIDAY
