Axiom Wines

TWM Wine Consultancy was established by the husband and wife team of Catherine and Stephen Clarke over 20 years ago, while they were living in the UK. The business continues to help wineries produce wines of consistent quality and style suited to the current market. The long story began when Stephen emigrated to Australia in 1970 with his parents. After graduating from high school, he worked temporarily in the chemistry department of Roseworthy, moving to Stanley Leasingham in the Clare Valley in '78. Thereafter, he enrolled at Roseworthy, completing the degree in oenology in '83, and through the rest of that decade worked in the Barossa. In '89 he returned to the UK with his family, undertaking what he describes as ‘an apprenticeship in the international wine trade'. He worked for a wine writer, a wine importer/distributor, and also made wines in the Cape District of South Africa, Alsace, Burgundy, the Ukraine, Bulgaria and (for six years) Macedonia. Returning to Australia in 2000, he took up the post of senior winemaker and lecturer at the University of Adelaide, and continues some consultancy work with wineries across the globe, but is now focusing ever more on Axiom wines.
