Larry Costa, a former hairdresser, embarked on winemaking as a hobby in '02. The property, with its 1ha of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and merlot, is situated on the rolling countryside of One Tree Hill in the Mount Lofty Ranges. The business grew rapidly, with grenache, nebbiolo, sangiovese, petit verdot, chardonnay, semillon and sauvignon blanc purchased to supplement the estate-grown grapes. Michael Costa, Larry’s son (with 18 vintages under his belt, mainly in the Barossa Valley, with Flying Winemaker stints in southern Italy and Provence), joined his father as co-owner of the business. -JAMES HALLIDAY
