Werkstatt

South Australia | Mount Gambier | The Wadawurrung Nation

Our Review

Werkstatt is the brainchild of Bridget Mac, who, after a successful career as an artist and author, channelled her creative energy into winemaking. Her education in wine was shaped under the guidance of Ray Nadeson of Lethbridge Wines, with significant experience gained through memorable vintages with Jim Chatto and Mel Chester of Giant Steps. In '22, she launched Werkstatt (German for "workshop") with a single riesling, inspired by her passion for cool-climate wines from regions such as Germany, Austria, and Alsace. After the success of her riesling, she quickly expanded her range to include a sparkling Sekt and a pétillant naturel. Mac adopts a minimalist approach in the winery, sourcing her fruit from vineyards in Mount Gambier, selected for its distinctive soils and cooling maritime influence. Werkstatt is already shaping a promising and ambitious story in the world of wine, with the narrative set to unfold further as a pinot noir is soon to join the lineup. -SHANTEH WALE
