Although Fabiano Minchella was born and raised in McLaren Vale, it’s his southern Italian heritage that he draws on for his label, By Fabiano. Established in ’21, after a whopping 22+ vintages overseas (mostly in Italy with a handful in France and Canada), the range is built around primitivo (in four styles), negroamaro, vermentino, fiano and greco. Fruit comes from small parcels within his family-owned 120ha vineyard, from vines pruned using the Simonit & Sirch method, and Fabiano takes a restrained, Italianate approach in the winery, aiming for purity and varietal expression through gentle handling and minimal oak. Sustainability is front and centre – not only has the range been based around the climate suitability of the grapes, By Fabiano is a vertically integrated brand that controls everything from vine to bottle, ensuring a km-0 production process. -ANNA WEBSTER
