Kominos Wines

Queensland | Granite Belt

Our Review

Tony Comino, a dedicated viticulturist and winemaker, and wife Mary took over ownership of the winery from his parents on its 21st vintage. Tony is proud of the estate-grown, made and bottled heritage of the winery and is content to keep a relatively low profile, although the fine show record of the wines might suggest otherwise. In addition to the estate plantings, he manages another 7ha. The varieties planted are sauvignon blanc, chenin blanc, semillon, chardonnay, shiraz, merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Another Qld producer to make good wines, capable of holding its own against all comers from the south (as Queenslanders refer to anyone not born in the state). Eighty percent of production is exported to Taiwan, Korea, Japan and China. -JAMES HALLIDAY
