Our Review
You'd be hard-pressed to recall a more iconic Waipara label than Pegasus Bay. The delightfully nostalgic gilded Pegasus–a winged horse representing the founders' pioneering spirit– atop a navy blue seal stands out a mile off on any bottleshop shelf. Fortunately, the wines are just as memorable. The Donaldson family planted the Canterbury vineyard in '85 after a few years tending to some 'hobby' vines on weekends. The vineyard now spans 40ha and is planted to pinot noir, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, muscat, gewürtztraminer, semillon, cabernet franc, merlot, malbec and cabernet sauvignon. The Virtuoso Chardonnay and the Minuetto Bordeaux blend offer exceptional aging in the best vintages. -KATRINA BUTLER
