Aristotelis Ke Anthoula

New South Wales | South Coast Zone

Our Review

After migrating from rural Greece to Sydney in the ’80s, Aristotelis and Anthoula Zafirakos began making their own wine in their garage with grapes procured from the local market. In ’16, their son, Tony, made things official, and the Aristotelis ke Anthoula label was born. The business has grown over the years – Tony and his partner Maddison Park-Neilson now make the wines in a facility on NSW’s Sapphire Coast – but their intent remains the same: to make vibrant, living wines by hand with no additives. Their range runs the gamut from chillable red blends, skin-contact orange wines, and even a retsina, to classic varietal wines, each made gently with wild fermentation in neutral oak and stone, with no fining, filtering or adds. For now, organic fruit is sourced from growers in Murrumbateman, Hilltops, Gundagai and Griffith, but there are immediate plans to establish their own vineyard. -ANNA WEBSTER
