Our Review
The property - including the house in which owners Richard and Kathy Thomas now live - has a rich history as a leading Suffolk sheep stud, founded upon the vast fortune accumulated by the Crawford family via its biscuit business in the UK. The estate vineyard has 7.9ha of sauvignon blanc, 3.8ha of pinot noir, 3.4ha each of cabernet sauvignon and merlot, and slightly less than 1ha each of sangiovese and chardonnay. Exports to the UK and Asia. -JAMES HALLIDAY
About
Mayfield Vineyard is one of the highest & coolest vineyards in Australia. Situated near Orange, New South Wales, the 100 hectare estate and Georgian homestead sit in beautiful surrounds close to where gold was first discovered in Australia in 1851.
The estate's cool climate and low vigour soil induces an extended, gradual ripening period that allows the grapes to develop distinctive flavours that translate into award winning, elegant, wines.
