Brockville Wines

New South Wales | Murray Darling

Our Review

Mark Bowring, a great-grandson of WB Chaffey (responsible for the design and implementation of the irrigation scheme in the Sunraysia district in the 1880s), and wife Leigh have been growing grapes since 1975. They have 10 ha of chardonnay, 4.4 ha of cabernet sauvignon and 1 ha of shiraz. In 1999 the Bowrings decided to have some cabernet sauvignon vinified for their own label, choosing Brockville as the name, as it is (or was) the Canadian hometown of WB Chaffey. More recently (in 2003) they acquired an additional 23 ha of vineyard directly across the road from their original plantings, and have opened a cellar door. -JAMES HALLIDAY
