Running Horse Wines

New South Wales | Hunter Valley

Our Review

David Fromberg, the founding owner of Running Horse Wines, completed his jockey's apprenticeship in 1997, weight issues ending that career, but leading to Running Horse Wines. (I know at least two jockeys who had successful professional careers before turning to professional wine life, both very successful, both good friends.) The first plantings were in 2000 (5ha), with another 2ha of shiraz planted in '01, taking the total of that variety to 5.5ha. When the cellar door opens later this year, there will be six vintages of Shiraz, two of Semillon, and a number of other wines with one or more vintages on sale. -JAMES HALLIDAY
