Our Review
In '96 Jan and Jorg Gartelmann purchased what was previously the George Hunter Estate – 16ha of mature vineyards, most established by Oliver Shaul in ’70. In a change of emphasis, the vineyard was sold and Gartelmann now sources its grapes from the Hunter Valley and other NSW regions, including the cool Rylstone area in Mudgee. Almost 25 years later, in Dec '20, the business was purchased by local chef Matt Dillow who was already running The Deck Cafe based at Gartelmann. -JAMES HALLIDAY

The cafe provides a fantastic breakfast menu followed by diverse and delightful "TAPAS" menu at Lunch complemented by Gartelmann wines and a generous range of beverages and Premium Vittoria Coffee. The cafe is situated on the deck overlooking the dam in young forest bushland. It is an experience to remember with local chefs and staff cooking and serving cafe favourites with a Hunter Valley fine-dining twist.
