The Bainton family, headed by eminent Sydney QC Russell Bainton, has 48ha of vineyard, with the oldest semillon planted in 1923, most in ?40. The major part of the shiraz, too, dates back to plantings in 1950 and ?55. -JAMES HALLIDAY
