Jonathan (Ding) Bell was a contemporary of mine at Sydney University Law School in the latter part of the 1950s and early '60s. He went on to practise in Queanbeyan/Canberra, while I remained in Sydney. He and wife Elizabeth run a mixed farming and grazing enterprise at Chase Farm in the Southern Highlands of NSW, but as part of a family business restructure, Liz took over the running of an 8ha vineyard at Kelvin Grove, near Canowindra. They plan to sell a proportion of the grape production, while slowly increasing the amount made, and to introduce a sparkling chardonnay. -JAMES HALLIDAY
