It’s worth running your eyes down this list and just, for a second, thinking of both the style of, and the regional impact on, each wine. Every shiraz here is a beautiful example of its type and yet there are so many fine and different types. One of the (many) great strengths of shiraz is that there’s a high level of transparency in the way its region shows through. Murdoch Hill’s The Landau Syrah is both the perfect example, and an absolute belter of a wine.

This is one of the finest Australian shiraz/syrah I have come across in a long time. So finely tuned, aromatic and fresh it makes my head spin. Violet, iodine, purple fruit persuasions and a swathe of the most beautiful, shapely tannins, like pinions of savoury enforcement riddling olive and smoked meat across the mid-weighted palate. Clearly fruit comes off a site as beautiful as the hands that crafted this wine. – Ned Goodwin MW
