Whipper Snapper Distillery Upshot Bandit Australian Corn Whiskey

Upshot Bandit is the lower-cost sibling to the original Upshot corn whisky from Whipper Snapper Distillery in Perth. Also a single cask bottling at 43% and otherwise produced in the same way as Upshot Original (from a corn-based recipe that also includes barley and wheat, matured in virgin American oak casks), my assumption is that the $20 price difference comes down to a slightly lower age, or perhaps it’s just a matter of cask selection. Slightly more volatile and showing less integration of oak and spirit on the nose than its older sibling; there’s definitely more grain and less wood here. But the lively, light, sweet and very easy-drinking palate shows careful distillation and still offers a lot of appeal for those who want whisky for drinking, not thinking.
