Morris of Rutherglen Single Malt Whisky
Morris's flagship single malt whisky is one of a raft of newer entries into the Australian market that aims to compete with imported single malts on price, coming in just under $100. Leaning heavily on Morris fortified wine casks, this whisky offers a big, juicy, playful nose that signals youth with plenty of vibrancy and fun. A slight rubbery note is common to Morris whiskies, and this product is happy to play in the big, bombastic space of heavy spirit and fortified wine influence. Despite the big nose, on the palate this whisky can only be described as smashable, with great fruit character, the right amount of oak and plenty of syrupy texture. Perhaps a little hot on the finish for 40%, this chest-thumping whisky is nonetheless supremely drinkable at a great price.
