Sandy Gray Whisky Company Coffee Liqueur
Sandy Gray is not your typical coffee liqueur. Very dry with just a hint of sweetness, this is the kind of product that could be used to make an espresso martini ( no espresso required), making it a valuable addition to the home bar. But if you’re used to the sweetness of commercial coffee liqueurs, you might want to add some sugar. Powerful and savoury on the nose, there’s an earthy flintiness and a pronounced umami, almost salami-like note that’s unexpected but not unpleasant. Both complex and well-integrated, there’s serious power on the palate. The bold coffee notes linger with just enough sugar to keep the bitterness at bay, and the umami note with slight acidity comes back to round out the finish. Indeed, it is not a product for the faint of heart but a refreshingly unique take on a popular style.
