Burdekin Distillery Second Giru Cane Spirit Coral Sea Strength
The 'Coral Sea Strength' title on this Burdekin Distillers Edition unaged cane spirit from 2024 refers to its powerful 54.5% abv. But boy, does it wear that booze well. Drinking this, you’d never guess it was so strong, and in many ways it’s more integrated and less volatile than some of Burkdekin’s much lower-strength releases. The nose shows wonderful integration and no spirit harshness with notes of grilled pineapple, black pepper and tropical rain on hot concrete, as well as a super fresh oyster brininess. The abv shows itself on the palate, but not anywhere near as harsh as you’d expect, the alcohol incredibly well integrated into this sweet, creamy spirit that lingers with the green herbaceousness of fresh sugarcane. An incredibly enjoyable and incredibly drinkable spirit. I’d be tempted to drink this as a martini, or simply on the rocks, but it would make an incredible Martinique-style Ti' Punch, too.
