Get to know the first five wines from The Group, the result of a unique collaboration with a grower-owned collective of more than 100 South Australian producers.

New premium Australian wine range, The Group, is one to watch. Their motto is ‘individually great, collectively better’ which reflects their unique partnership with a grower-owned collective of more than 100 top growers across South Australia. Their range not only showcases the best possible fruit, sites and regions of South Australia, but also celebrates and supports the unsung heroes of the industry, the growers.

Their inaugural range includes four exceptional varietals and one limited edition shiraz sourced from a biodynamic vineyard.

2017 The Murder McLaren Vale Shiraz, $34
MURDER
The growers: Brian and Valerie Cameron are 3rd generation McLaren Vale grape growers with 70 years of family knowledge and experience.
Tasting notes: Notes of blackberry, liquorice and cured meat. Mouthfeel is coating and balanced with integrated tannins and delicate acid, with a pop of white pepper on the finish.

2019 The Shadow Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir, $34
SHADOW
The growers: The grapes from this wine come from the Amadio family, with their iconic vineyard located in Kersbrook. The team are supported by a passionate family that has a long history of producing an amazing array of varietals for many Australian winemakers.
Tasting notes: Aromas of cherry blossom, fresh sage and thyme with a hint of star anise. Subtle mushroom on the palate, with energetic acid, structure and smooth tannins creating a full mouth feel.

2019 The Quiver McLaren Vale Grenache, $34
QUIVER
The growers: The grapes for this wine are grown on Dave and Jen Wright’s stunning Wlypena Vineyard. This beautiful site, which they also call home, is managed by Jen’s son Fred and wife Sarah, making this grenache a family effort.
Tasting notes: Delicate, layered and coating. Notes of truffle and soy, balanced with aromatics including violet and ripe strawberry.

2018 The Fever McLaren Vale Field Blend, Merlot, Mourvedre & Cabernet, $34
FEVER
The growers: Rob and Julie Symonds run a traditional mixed farm with grapes one of several crops. This diversified focus supports their sustainable view on growing, one of the factors that has helped them produce some of the region’s highest quality grapes.
Tasting notes: Black olives, roasted beetroot, and dark plum, rounded off with oak tannins, giving the wine structure and finesse, with a bold and juicy palate.

2019 The Siege McLaren Vale, $70
LUXE
The growers: David and Ang Paxton purchased their first vineyard property in 1979 and have been a vanguard of biodynamic wine growing in Australia since 2004.
Tasting notes: Delicate layers of chocolate, aniseed and liquorice, along with notes of blood plum and blackcurrant. Generous and full-bodied with velvety tannins and beautifully integrated oak.
