What makes a wine worthy of being a collectable? It isn’t a question with just one simple answer, although its clout for scoring top points and accolades is a good point to start.
Introducing some of the top scorers from this year’s Halliday Wine Companion. All were named as among some of the best varietals by James Halliday and the tasting team, so it seems only natural that these wines make a coveted addition to any personal collection. The wines below represent some of the finest examples of their respective varietals, and are a credit to their winemakers and regions of origin.
While one of the most appealing aspects of having a wine collection featuring such coveted styles is the mere enjoyment of owning it (and perhaps name dropping), there is also immense pleasure to be had in opening these wines at the most special of dinner parties or family celebrations. Some may even be reserved for the collections of future generations.
Which wines will you add to your collection?
