You've probably been roaming the aisles at your local Dan Murphy's and picked up a Wynns cabernet to take to that Saturday night dinner party. Well in an exciting turn of events, this week, the Coonawarra label has released four new wines as part of the Reframed collection. The rule book has been thrown out and winemakers Sue Hodder, Sarah Pidgeon, and Chris Plummer have played a game of Who Dares Wynns.
The four wines are a contemporary take on Wynns' classic styles: 2021 Coonawarra Cabernet Rosé (big yes); 2021 Limestone Coast Fiano Pinot Grigio Arneis (*Googles* arneis) ; 2021 Coonawarra Rogue Vines Shiraz Riesling (shiraz and riesling, are we sure?); and the 2021 Coonawarra Cabernet Franc Cabernet Sauvignon (why haven’t people done this sooner?!).
“Our new Reframed wines give us licence to approach varieties in different ways using unusual varietal combinations from Coonawarra and the Limestone Coast,” says Wynns winemaker Sarah Pidgeon. “We’re taking the knowledge and experience of the Wynns team and putting a modern twist on our traditional winemaking practices by exploring new ways to express our beautiful grapes."
Sarah says the team at Wynns are picking earlier to retain freshness and creating wines perfect for casual gatherings such as barbecues and picnics. "We’re blending in unexpected ways to build interest and texture, and we’re bringing a lighter touch to winemaking by using little or no oak to maintain the freshness and aromatics of each wine."
2021 Wynns Reframed Cabernet Rosé
Pale copper pink in colour, with subtle red rose petals with hints of dried apple on the nose. A lovely dry and mouth-watering crunchy palate, with juicy raspberry fruits and hints of underlying leafy cabernet. The finish is long and refreshing.RRP $26 | Drink to 2023
2021 Wynns Reframed Shiraz Riesling
It echoes the Rhone tradition of adding a small percentage of Viognier, adding aromatics and a softer texture to structural shiraz. The floral notes of Coonawarra Shiraz are elevated on the palate, with fresh bright fruit presenting softness and energy, for a versatile food pairing experience.RRP $26 | Drink to 2031
2021 Wynns Reframed Fiano Pinot Grigio Arneis
Fiano leads the style with its citrus, pear and spicy characters and pithy texture. Pinot grigio and arneis add weight, hints of perfume and savoury notes. The result is crisp and refreshing wine for summer with enough body to make it a versatile and easy food match for any time of the year.RRP $26 | Drink to 2025
2021 Wynns Reframed Cabernet Franc Cabernet Sauvignon
This family blend showcases the best of both styles, with the perfume and soft tannins of cabernet franc given a boost of depth and lusciousness from the cabernet sauvignon. There's a nice line of gentle acidity and soft red fruits on the palate, making it a perfect choice for red wine lovers in high summer, and year-round.RRP $26 | Drink to 2031
