Halliday is shocked and devastated by the recent passing of Yangarra Estate and Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard winemaker Peter Fraser.
Pete has been a friend to the Wine Companion for over 20 years. On top of being named the 2016 Halliday Winemaker of the Year and winning Wine of the Year twice – the 2016 High Sands Grenache won in the 2020 Companion, and the 2021 Old Vine Grenache won in 2024 – he shared a close personal relationship with James, as he also did with many members of the Halliday Tasting Team.
Beyond his skill as a winemaker, Pete will be remembered for his affable nature, his pivotal role in McLaren Vale’s grenache renaissance, and the love he had for his wife and children.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Pete's family, friends, colleagues, everyone at Jackson Family Wines and the entire Australian, particularly McLaren Vale, wine community.
