Iconic Victorian winery Seppelt has released its 2022 Luxury Collection. While the release is an annual occurrence, the 2022 is particularly special as it’s the first under senior winemaker Clare Dry.
“I took on the role in late 2020, and so the only part of the 2021 Luxury Collection that I’d actually made was the Drumborg Riesling,” Clare says. “Whereas this year, I’ve made almost everything.”
Comprising eight wines, the 2022 Luxury Collection is headlined by the 2020 St Peters Grampians Shiraz, made with fruit from Seppelts’ Great Western vineyard. Five wines are from the 2021 vintage, from the winery’s Drumborg, Grampians and Henty vineyards. There’s also the 2022 Drumborg Riesling and the 2017 Salinger Vintage Cuvée, one of Seppelt’s most popular sparkling wines.

While Clare has made some changes to all the wines, the most obvious – and the one she’s most excited about – is the Drumborg Chardonnay.
“It’s changed a lot in style. There’s a real difference in the aromatics and the texture, and the palate is a lot creamier,” she says. “To me it’s more enticing, but I’m a bit biased!”
The 2021 Drumborg Pinot Noir is another highlight for Clare. “It’s a real standout. Drumborg had a really good year in 2021, the weather gods aligned, and we were able to stick to every plan we made, which is unusual,” she laughs.
“Each of the wines from the Collection has a story to tell, from the elegance of St Peters to the ethereal Drumborg reds, the release is a showcase of our vineyards, viticulture and winemaking.”
The 2022 Seppelt Luxury Collection is available now.
