Family winery Henschke has released the next vintage of its revered single-vineyard shiraz – the 2015 Henschke Hill of Grace. Always among the most highly anticipated wine launches of the year, this release follows tiny yields for the wine in 2013 and 2014, with the 2015 representing an exceptional vintage in terms of volume – in the context of its limited release – as well as quality.
The team at Henschke, headed up by winemaker Stephen Henschke and viticulturist wife Prue, follows biodynamic and organic principles to create the best possible environment for their fruit. Plush and velvety on the palate, the 2015 Hill of Grace has intense fruit concentration, with plum, redcurrant, blackberry and anise flavours, an elegant and refined structure with silky tannins, and a very long finish. It marks the 54th release of this icon wine, with James Halliday calling the new release “one of the all-time greats”.
The 2015 Henschke Hill of Grace ($865) launches alongside seven other wines in the collection, including the 2017 Johann’s Garden Grenache Mataro ($56), 2017 Tappa Pass Shiraz ($115) and 2016 Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon ($165). It follows the release of the 2015 Hill of Roses Shiraz ($390), while the 2015 Hill of Peace Semillon ($65) – its fruit coming off the same vineyard site and only produced in the best years – will roll out next week (Wednesday, May 13).
