Warm, sunny days and cool evenings make for grapes with natural balance and elegance. Beechworth’s climate, coupled with its mineral-rich hills allow for the premium production of a range of wine varieties. Across more than two-dozen vineyards, the common themes are hands-on attention to detail and utter dedication, positioning Beechworth wines next to some of the best in the world. The region is known for its excellence in
chardonnay and shiraz, but it’s also doing impressive work with emerging varieties like nebbiolo.
Each year, on a Saturday in November, the vignerons of Beechworth host a comprehensive tasting event featuring some of the most sought-after and unique wines of the region. In the Memorial Hall of the town’s historic Ford Street, local makers will each take a table to chat with enthusiasts – expect to meet everyone from the established wine icons to the energetic new guard.
Make the trip to try and buy the region’s coveted wines, or participate in a shiraz masterclass led by Keppell Smith of Savaterre and Tessa Brown of Vignerons Schmölzer and Brown. After you've had plenty of wine to sample, enjoy Beechworth's passion for local produce and culinary arts, by making a reservation at one of the town’s esteemed restaurants.
Tickets are $55 per person for a three-hour tasting session, including a Riedel tasting glass.
VIP passes are $120 per person and include two tasting sessions and a shiraz masterclass.
