Graziers Sarah and Tom Guthrie began their diversification into wine in 1989, but their core business continues to be fat lamb and wool production. Both activities were ravaged by the 2006 bushfires, but each has recovered, that of their grapegrowing and winemaking rising like a phoenix from the ashes. They have acquired the Garden Gully winery at Great Western, giving them a cellar door presence and a vineyard of 2.4 ha of 60-year-old shiraz, and 3 ha of 45-year-old riesling vines. During 2008 Grampians Estate wines continued to excel, winning seven trophies. A feature of the cellar door will be wine education sessions during school holidays, and the cellar door will not only offer the full range of Grampians Estate wines but specially chosen wines from smaller local boutique wineries.

Grampians Estate has quickly established an iconic reputation for its cool-climate peppery Shiraz.  In particular the Streeton Reserve Shiraz label is very successful.  These wines rank amoung the best of the festured wines made within the famous Grampians wine region by Mt Langi Ghiran, Bests, Seppelts and other leading wineries.

With vineyards located at the foothills of Mt William in Mafeking and Great Western, Grampians Estate has fast become one of the region's leading boutique wineries with an impressive list of awards.

Tom and Sarah Guthrie, with children Pollyanna and Ford, have nurtured their Shiraz, Chardonnay and Riesling vines with the goal to produce the best premium wines from their onsite winery.  The classic Australian painting "Land of the Golden Fleece" by Sir Arthur Streeton features on many labels.  The scene incorporates the idyllic location of the current day vineyard and home of Grampians Estate.
