Owned by Suzanne Rutschmann, who has a PhD in Chemistry, a Diploma in Horticulture and a BSc (Wine Science) from CSU, and Swiss-born Peter Albrecht, a civil and structural engineer who has also undertaken various courses in agriculture and viticulture. For a part- time occupation, these are exceptionally impressive credentials. Their vineyard (pinot noir, cabernet, shiraz and merlot) was planted between 1991 and ’98. Sarsfield Pinot Noir has enjoyed conspicuous success in both domestic and international wine shows over the past few years. No insecticides are used in the vineyard, the winery runs on solar and wind energy, and relies entirely on rain water. No Pinot Noir was made in 2007 owing to smoke taint; the rating is that of last year. The previously released 2006 Pinot Noir won a gold medal at the Mondial du Pinot Noir competition, held in Switzerland and attracting 1100 wines from 19 countries, judged by 53 international wine judges, who thus had 40 wines for each panel to taste. Exports to Ireland.
