Wineries
Kennedy & Wilson is a partnership between brothers James and Peter Wilson, and Juliana Kennedy. James, previously a chemical engineer, completed his Master of Oenology degree at Adelaide University in 2006, and is currently completing a PhD. Peter worked under Bailey Carrodus at Yarra Yering from 1986–96, and established Kennedy & Wilson chocolates in '96 before joining Stuart Wines as chief winemaker in 2003. Juliana, ex-CEO of a smartcard/ sim card company and the business mind behind the chocolate venture, now describes herself as ‘manager of the worldwide Kennedy & Wilson conglomerate'. A sense of humour in this business is an essential ingredient. The grapes come from the Quarry Ridge Vineyard in Kilmore at an elevation of 400 m on the southern side of the Great Dividing Range. The chardonnay and one of the pinot noir blocks are 20 years old; the balance of the vineyard was planted in 1998. The climate is very cool indeed, the hand-picked fruit ripening between April and May.
