KarriBindi has been established by Kevin, Yvonne and Kris Wealand. The name is partly derived from Karridale and the surrounding Karri forests, and from Bindi, the home town of one of the members of the Wealand family. In Nyoongar, ‘karri' means strong, special, spiritual, tall tree and ‘bindi' means butterfly, hence the label's picture of a butterfly soaring through Karri trees. The Wealands have established sauvignon blanc (15 ha), chardonnay (6.25 ha), cabernet sauvignon (4 ha), semillon (3 ha), and shiraz and merlot (2 ha each). The major part of the grape production is sold under contract to Vasse Felix and Leeuwin Estate, with limited amounts released under the KarriBindi label. The core range includes Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Chardonnay Pinot.
