Barney Flanders and David Chapman call Allies a collaboration; both come from a restaurant background dating back many years, Barney on the floor and David in the kitchen. In 1997 they turned their sights to wine; Barney graduated from CSU with a wine science degree in ’99, and has since worked in the Mornington Peninsula, Yarra Valley, Trentino, Sonoma and Côte Rôtie. David left the restaurant scene in 2004 and is studying wine science at CSU. They own no vineyards and have made wine from various vineyard sources in various regions, but in ’06 took on the management of the 20-ha Merricks Grove Vineyard in Merricks North, which will supply the core of the material for their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. At the top end of those releases come the limited-production Garagiste-branded wines.
