Time flies, and it seems incredible that Crawford River has celebrated its 30th birthday. Once a tiny outpost in a little-known wine region, Crawford River is now one of the foremost producers of Riesling (and other excellent wines) thanks to the unremitting attention to detail and skill of its founder and winemaker, John Thomson. His exceptionally talented and (dare I say) attractive daughter Belinda has returned full time after completing her winemaking degree and working along the way in Marlborough (NZ), Bordeaux, Ribera del Duero (Spain), Bolgheri and Tuscany, and the Nahe (Germany), with Crawford River filling in the gaps. Severe frosts in spring ’06 led to secondary bud shoot, and thanks to skilled viticulture, the small ’07 crop ripened well, with only cabernet sauvignon lacking structure, hence the first Crawford River rose. Exports to the UK, Ireland, Canada, Japan and South-East Asia.
