Former long-serving Best’s winemaker Simon Clayfield and wife Kaye are now doing their own thing. They planted 2 ha of shiraz and merlot between 1997 and ’99. Additional grapes are purchased from local growers and, when the quality is appropriate, incorporated in the Grampians Shiraz. Production is modest, but the quality is high; production from the 2007 vintage was, nonetheless, severely cut by frost. Exports to the US, Canada and Maldives.
