Stephen Shelmerdine has been a major figure in the wine industry for well over 20 years, like his family (who founded Mitchelton Winery) before him, and has been honoured for his many services to the industry. The venture has vineyards spread over three sites: Lusatia Park in the Yarra Valley, and Merindoc Vineyard and Willoughby Bridge in the Heathcote region. Substantial quantities of the grapes produced are sold to others; a small amount of high-quality wine is contract-made. Exports to the UK, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The Shelmerdine label was launched in 2002, but the family has a long association with the modern Victorian wine industry, first establishing vineyards in Nagambie Lakes in 1968. Shelmerdine Vineyards is committed to crafting premium wines that express the climate, landscape and character of our vineyards. We embrace the honesty the rocks, soils and rhythm of the seasons impart on our wines.

Our elegant and graceful cool climate varietals including Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are grown at altitude in our Lusatia Park Vineyard in the Upper Yarra Valley. Those that prefer warmer climes, including Viognier, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot find their true expressions in carefully chosen sites in our Merindoc and Willoughby Bridge Vineyards in Heathcote.
